In the long run, [people] hit only what they aim at. Therefore, they had better aim at something high. – Henry David Thoreau
What's GATE All About?
The mission of Huntsville City Schools is to provide appropriate services to our gifted students so they can perform to their potential in strength areas. In addition, gifted students have socio-emotional needs that must be met through gifted education.
The philosophy of Huntsville City Schools is that all children should have equal educational opportunities to develop their abilities to the fullest potential. Equal opportunity must take into consideration that children differ greatly in their potential to achieve. We want to avoid the misconception that gifted students’ needs will be met without special services.
In a nutshell, we at Challenger Elementary want to foster intellectual curiosity. Our students are encouraged to explore their environment in the hopes that it will spark their imaginations. In doing so, they are better able to relate to their surroundings and can therefore create meaningful work. We want our students to be inquisitive and to learn to be engaged in the world, engaged in their futures, and engaged in success.
